Cyprus’ O.E.

L.I. Add distances in km
Work out the distance travelled
Plan a trip and calculate the distance travelled

Cyprus is planning his O.E. He has arranged a job in London and he needs to travel from Auckland to there.

He can travel either via America or Asia.
He needs to fly Air New Zealand to use his airpoints for at least one travel distance , eg: Auckland - San Franfrisco

Use this link to find out the distances between destinations.
Plan two flights for Cyprus, one going to America and then London and one going to Asia and then London.

Image result for vancouver
AMERICA
Auckland - Vancouver = 11, 372 Vancouver - London = 7, 606
7, 606 + 11, 372 = 18, 978

ASIA
Auckland - Hong Kong = 9, 181 Hong Kong - London = 9, 646
9, 646 + 9, 181 = 18, 827

Quaid - Squash

Squash

Swoosh! Squash is a sport that can not only be played with a friend, but also a professional. In this game you don’t only need to be competitive but also strategic. To master this game you need to know all the possible ways to hold the racket.

Back hand is where your palm is slightly to the back of the racket. Forehand is also the same but you have to make a ‘V’ shape with your hand. Also, the grip of your hand has to be slightly loose so that you have enough power to pull it back and defeat the player. Tactics are really handy as well.

When you serve, you have to stand in the box near the rear corner of your side. The aim is to hit the ball fast so that the other play has less time to retrieve the ball. When you are on your 4-5 hit, then that is a good time to swing back and charge at the ball. You may find this handy when competing against other professional players.

One of my favourite players is Peter Nicol. He is a professional player from Scotland and plays for both England and Scotland. Whilst achieving many PSA ( Professional Squash Achievements), he is also known for his great sportsmanship and being able to control his forehand and backhand.

You can play Squash with your friends, family or against a professional. If you are talented in this game and you are good at strategic moves, then you should think about applying for the Open Juniors game which is every year in September. I hope you have learnt about squash today.

Skytower

Telling Where - Sky Tower

At the top of the sky tower were gazing into the sky. With birds flying past and instructors yelling because of the racket of the wind. There was no way I was going to jump into the air.

I remember as if it was yesterday

I remember as if it was yesterday

I remember as if it were yesterday when my ‘old pal’ Jacob and I, decided to go swimming. We couldn’t go that day because Aunty Jo wanted us to tidy the house. We snuck off to the creek and it was all downhill from there. I had cut myself on the way, but Jacob didn’t. Meaning, I wouldn’t swim that day. Jacob dived into the 5 foot high creek and hit his head. As if it was a consequence because I couldn’t swim. Limping towards the waterside, I heard a car. “STOP, STOP, PLEASE!” yelled. The car didn’t stop. I don’t know what happened next because I had fainted from the terrible surprise. I woke up and my mum had told me the bad news. He didn’t make it. If only that stupid, nasty, terrible human being hadn’t of thrown the glass bottle, he would still be here today.

Museum Trip !

 Photo
Yesterday we went to the Museum! This was a fun trip that made us aware of the people , culture, food and clothes that is important to different countries. As you can see in the photo above, this is a Fijian boat. With the perimeter being around 5 x 3 ,  its amazing how it can fit upto ten people! This was a fun trip learning about all the different reasons people may migrate.

Space Jump !

On Monday we had a special visit from the people from Space Jump. They showed us an act which will be showed at the Storyline Festivals 2014. It was about a lady from space who used her tehno-gadget skills to 'space jump' Claire so she can use her body to complete her task which is to find non-fiction books. She found books about Snails, Boring Books and many more. My personal favourite was the Dunger book.

Quaid - Stadium

The stadium.jpg
Jason and Sam couldn’t wait to get to the game. After 2 weeks of hard work it had finally paid off. They had been waiting forever for this day. At least thats what it felt like. It was the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox game and even better, it was the final. It seemed like actually going to the game was a lot better than watching it on an old, small TV.

2 weeks earlier

“What should we do today Sam?” questioned Jason. “Well, because its the holidays I’m thinking of getting a job, with the neighbors”. “Sweet” replied Jason with glee. “I can do Mrs Levis garden and you can mow the lawns” said Sam. “We’ll get it done in no time” Jason thought.

They then set off to Mrs Levis house. Her house was as stinky and as gruesome as an ogre. Her house was in such as bad state, even her garden looked as if it has collapsed dead. Her grass was as tall as me and her flowers had egg yolks all over them. “How on earth did they get there” Jason muttered to himself. “I don’t know” added Sam.

“You gotta do what you gotta do” Jason announced. They got to work. Jason started with the lawns while Sam did the garden. 10 minutes through they decided they needed a rest. They’d earnt it. There was only one word to describe the way they ate. Pigs. They must’ve been hungry.

Sam and Jason later finished. Having $200 was a pretty good amount. A really good amount. They started to wonder what to do with the money. The TV blinked. “US Baseball phenomenon. New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox game . Tickets under $100 but running out fast. Book now at Ticketek. Avoid Disappointment!”
“Perfect” they both chanted together.

The game day

It was real. They were in the stadium. Sitting up front and watching the best baseball game of all time. They had the White and Red jacket on with the cap they brought at the gift shop. “The cap fits perfectly” Jason exclaimed. “It  was winking at me. I’m sure of it”.

They finally found their seats. They just got there before the game started. “BING, BING, BING” rang the buzzer. The game had started and the first batter hit the ball . It soared through the air and was heading towards Jack. “Heads up Jack!!!” screamed Sam in extreme excitement. “Yes! I caught it” Jack pronounced with extreme pride. They clapped and clapped.
