Report On Jean Batten

Introduction

Jean Batten is a New Zealand famous aviator who broke world records. She wanted to prove that men and women were equal. When Jean became a pilot there were not many women pilots so she was one of the few women that were pilots at the time.

Jean Gardner Batten was born on 15th September 1909 in Rotorua. She lived with her Mum, Dad and two elder brothers. Her Mum had a Job as an Actress and her Dad had a job working as a Dentist. Jean’s Mum and Dad bought a piano for Jean but she sold it to pay for her Mum and her flight to go to England to get her pilot’s licence. When she got her pilot’s licence she bought a helicopter and called it `Moth`.

Jean started to achieve world records. Her First record was in 1933 (solo flight) from England to India. Her second record was in 1934. She flew from England to Australia and she also set a new record for women. Her third record was in 1935 to fly back to England from Australia and she was the first woman to fly both ways. From England in 1935 she went to Brazil which made that record number four.


Later Jean Batten meet a man that she loved and so they got engaged. One day he went missing. Jean went looking for him but she had no luck. She later found out that there had been a plane crash and sadly he died. After the tradgic disaster she never loved any one else.

Conclusion

Jean was mostly noticed after she died and how brilliant she was at flying. She broke many world records in aviation.
